On a beautiful sunny Thursday morning we headed to Azadi Tower in the eastern part of Tehran, with our amazing team of brilliant FCE and CAE students. On the way, Ms. Aida described for our students, the history of Azadi tower, the architect Mr. Amanat and all the amazing facts about the number and arrangement of the stones and finally how the architect has creatively applied Iranian traditional elements in the modern structure and design of the tower.
It was not until we arrived at the tower and stood right beneath its glorious structure when all the students deeply understood and touched the reality of what they had just learnt. We visited the stone museum and ascended the tower to the roof, took so many pictures and left the building with a great sense of pride. We took off for the famous cinema city of Tehran designed by Maestro Ali Hatami, a place specially designed with the architecture and atmosphere of the old Tehran for historical movies and series to be made in its locations. I was personally shocked to see how these lovely teenagers, all drowned in their electronic devices, were lost in time and wandered around the streets, imagining their grandparents walking in streets like that. They specifically enjoyed their time with a lovely old man who owned a shop in the area and asked them to cite some Hafiz lines and in return he awarded them with souvenirs!
On the way back, I felt a great sense of joy having spent so much time with my lovely students. And most importantly, I was happy to see the trace of pride of their hometown in their brilliant eyes and innocent faces.
I am specially greatful from Gardesh Afarinan Pars for arranging such an amazing trip and for making such a memorable day for all of us.
